September 2015 update to fix Windows or application freezes after you install security update 3076895

After you install security update 3076895 (this update is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-084), you experience the following symptoms for the listed products.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (Hosted only, On-Premises is not affected)

Policies aren't updated.
Client UI may not open.
The portal isn't updated with the status of the client.

Exclude a file from Scan in Server 2012

I need a solution

Hi everybody,

I would like to know how can I exclude a file or folder from being scan in Windows Server? I can exclude it from Windows Clients but not in Server.

I have a file that always is detected like a "virus" but it isn't. If i don't exclude it from Symantec I can't work.

It's possible to exclude it from Server?

Hi to all!!!

We have a D-link DFL-210 and a lot of computers with SEP Cloud installed. This computers cant have internet connection but they need to comunicate with cloud console. 

For installing, we have to open firewall restrictions because the installer cant comunicate with console, but after installation we have closed their comunications. After that console dont detect computers as connected and we cant send commands from console to this computers.

We have seen in firewall that during installation, computers connect to two IP 's. We have opened trafic for this IPs in port 443 and antivirus have installed well. But after this, console cant comunicate with this computers (traffic to this Ips are allways opened in port 443 but only for this two IPs, we think they are symantec servers). We have read symantec documentation but it says a lot of ports and a range of ports, are all necessary?

The question is: what ports should be opened in firewall to establish connection with console?

Its a very important question for us.

SEP Cloud - Allow and block websites

Hi there everyone,

in my company we use SEP SBE Cloud to manage 9 endpoints, and we where wondering if there is a feature to block certain websites, or block all websites allowing just some in a whitelist.

I've found different refernces on creating Firewall policies to do that, but I think they are all referred to the Enterprise version of SEP, as I can't find nothing similar in SEP SBE Cloud Console:

Endpoint won't deploy via GPO

I need a solution

I've pushed many apps via GPO before but I can't for the life of me get Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition cloud to deploy. I signed into my online account, downloaded the deployment tool, run it which generated the MSI and the MST file, dropped it into a share on the sysvol, located the MSI and deployed it in a GPO as a software install, hit advanced and added the MST in the same share, but no, it won't install.

Group Policy Results Wizard shows this failure:

The assignment of application Symantec.cloud - Group Policy Deployment from policy SEP SMB Cloud failed.  The error was : The group policy framework should call the extension in the synchronous foreground policy refresh.

Some googling tells me this is due to the "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" policy not being disabled. I disabled and get the same error, I enabled and still get the same error.

Has anyone been able to get it to install and can help me push via GPO?

3) Benefits and drawback of Cloud AV Solutions
4) Architecture of Cloud deployment
5) Does Symantec is going to offer this as SAS, which means all operation part is taken care by Symantec and customer shall get management console where they can do , monitor policy and management
6) What sort of cloud this can be integrate, as well as does Symantec have it’s own cloud offerings or any preferred Cloud vendor from Symantec

I need a solution

I am having some issues installing the Symantec Endpoint protection small business edition (cloud). The install does not complete, it installs the agent but endpoint protection ends with Installation not completed. I have tried reinstalling multiple times without success... I am guessing that the SEP is not compatible with the insider preview version, are there any solutions such as beta versions that could be utilised? This has only occured in the last 3 drops from MS and I was hoping this had been addressed by now.

I need a solution

I just installed the latest version of SEP SBE on a laptop that I use for several business clients.

When I opened an elevated command prompt to run the "avagent -SHOW_UI" command I saw that there were no tasks scheduled.

I thought that was OK.

Then I clicked the Start menu and typed, defrag.

When I opened the Disk Defragmenter, I received a pop-up saying that another program was controlling it.

For crying out loud Symantec - cut that out!

I specifically set options on MY computer for a reason. And you have unilaterally changed them without notice or warning.

That is simply disgraceful!

Slow loading of website

I need a solution

I am using endpoint protection manager to block all and allow only certain website by this link:  https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH95248.html

But the allow website will takes more than 5min to load and cannot load properly. When disable endpoint protection the website load as usual.

Any configuration i have miss out?

When I read the PMC Administrator's Guide and see the following, I tend to believe it.

Especially the part that "the customer receives no email communications concerning the service or account unless" I issue it.

A few months ago I transitioned a number of clients to another vendor's solution.  As part of that migration, I removed their computers, deleted all policies, and effectively nullified their account.

After waiting one full quarter to account for the ExSP reporting period, I took some time today to delete these customers from the PMC.

I have now been flooded with emails and phone calls because my clients received the following notice directly from Symantec:

Dear xxxx,
 
 
Heliotropic Systems, Inc. no longer manages your  Symantec.cloud account. As a result, your Symantec.cloud 
subscriptions provided by your managed service provider have  been cancelled. This means that your account is in a
suspended state:
 
 • Your ELS keys are expired
 
 • Your deployed Backup Exec.cloud agents no longer backup data
 
 • Your deployed Endpoint Protection agents no longer receive updates
 
 Your action is required to restore Symantec.cloud services to your organization. For 60 days, your existing
 Backup Exec.cloud data remains on Symantec servers and your Endpoint Protection agents function without updates. You can:
 
  • Renew your services through the Symantec e-store
 
 • Renew your services through another managed service provider
 
 If you feel you have received this email in error, either:
 
  1. Contact your reseller or managed service provider for more information.

So where, exactly, does the setting in the PMC actually come into play?

What's with the Backup Exec stuff - that was discontinuued years ago?

Why is Symantec trying one last chance at "poaching" a client?

And they wonder why I am not going to use Symantec Cloud or SEP 14...

I need a solution

We are new to Symantec EPSBE.  A few of our computers need the ability to scan documents from network all-in-ones to a "scan" folder on them.  This feature no longer works after installing EPSBE and I am assuming it is because of the firewall.  How can we allow this function?

I need a solution

Hi everybody,

I'm having problems with Symantec. I have installed them in computers with Windows 7 but when I try to open a program it give me a Blue Screen. I have tested every component of Symantec (SONAR, AntiSpyware) but the problem is with the Antivirus. When i turn it off, the program works fine but when is on, it crashes always. The only one problem that i have is that BSOD doesn't generates a Dump file.

I tried many things but nothing works.

Please I need a big help :(

If you are a Managed Services Provider (MSP) and use RMM software to monitor your client's computers, and use Symantec Endpoint Small Business Edition (2013) to protect them, your RMM may report that the desktops are not quite right.

That's because in the latest (re-released) 22.8.0.50 update, Symantec made some changes - and, of course, didn't announce them.

According to one of the technicians I was working with on a related case:

NIS-22.8.0.50 is the current version of SEP SBE.cloud on all workstations. The registry key that contains this information can be found here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\SPNServices\6000\Version

Starting in NIS-22.8.0.50, the virus definition directory got changed to a new folder.

C:\Program Files\Symantec.cloud\EndpointProtectionAgent\NortonData\22.8.0.50\Definitions\SDSDefs

So if your RMM portal looks wonky, let your vendor know about these updates/changes.

My thoughts on this update:

Typical for Symantec, this shows some pretty poor planning and a complete disregard for their MSP base, because it looks like each future update will go into a differently named folder.  This will require a coding update to take place on the part of various RMM vendors as they play "catch-up" after the release.  Because, as I said, none of this was pre-release information...

I need a solution

Dear All,

I really require a great help from you all. Recently on of my computers in our domain has become a spammer. Because we are getting lots of spam emails error and bounce back which is send as part of our domain. We are having exchange 2013 server but the email is hosted by GoDaddy. Our domain is getting blocked in so many companies since there are spam emails going out. I am unable to trace anything since I am not that good in the firewall. But we have Symantec endpoint protection 12.1 in our company. I have attached the screenshot of the SEP which we are having.

Please provide me suggestions how to find out the PC which is spamming. Do I have to upgrade to any other Symantec product which can be antispam detection? Or is there any other solutions. Please help. I need real solutions. Our domain is getting blocked in many companies.
